The Importance of Regularity

Although the Baltimore Ravens have been eliminated from the 2020-2021 NFL postseason, the team clearly had a revival during the last few weeks of the regular season, a revival that extended into their victory in the Wild Card round against the Tennessee Titans. It may be difficult to pinpoint one and only one reason for this revival, but a key element of it was undoubtedly the improved performance of quarterback Lamar Jackson.

This improved performance seemed to coincide with an “incident” that took place during a game mid season against the Cleveland Browns. To be blunt, Lamar had to defecate so badly he needed to leave the game to do so. He did return to that game and was an important factor in their victory that evening

Lamar claimed he had “cramps”. I think Lamar did a great disservice by not stating publicly the real reason he had to leave the game. Not many people want to talk about their bathroom habits or when they are having problems defecating, or not defecating, other than with their physicians. I think this is an attitude that needs to change. I am not suggesting that people always or often discuss their bathroom habits or create scatological humor from it. However, when incidents such as this occur, I believe it is a good opportunity to remind people of the importance of regularity and how the lack of such regularity can have implications, sometimes serious implications, for one’s health. There should be nothing embarrassing about that.

Excellent economic information website

I am took online course on edX called Macroeconomic Management in Resource-Rich Countries in 2018.  The first module of this course pointed me in the direction of an excellent website called The Atlas of Economic Complexity.  It is maintained by the Center for International Development at Harvard University.  Give it a look.  As an example, it provides detailed information on the exports and imports of countries around the world.

See above for the links to the economic complexity atlas website as well as the edX website.

My first experience zip lining

Keith Layton Zipping on Catalina Island

My first experience zip lining took place on Catalina Island in April of 2017. Catalina Island is about a 1/2 hour ferry ride from Long Beach Port in Los Angeles, CA.  I found it to be a fascinating place to visit.

In any event, back to my zip lining.  Question – Do you think I look scared, contemplative, or bored in this photo?
